During the budget process for 2018 the Hunger Committee leadership asked for $5,000, so they may offer grants to PEVA congregations to meet the needs of the hungry in their communities, using monies from a fund restricted for community ministries. These funds are designated for and limited within the PEVA bounds, for PEVA Congregations and supported ministries, but may not be restricted to just food. They must be used however!  The maximum amount of a church community hunger grant awarded will be $1,000.  Please do not confuse this the Nickel-A-Meal Grant process or the Community grant process.  CLICK HERE FOR APPLICATION

  • Only PEVA congregations may apply & receive these funds - NOT agencies or organizations,
  • The Church ministry must be hunger related (e.g. providing or producing food for the hungry)
  • The ministry should reflect the Hunger Committee's mission statement below in some way:

The Hunger Committee of the Presbytery of Eastern Virginia (believing that hunger is unacceptable), is to lead and challenge the churches of PEVA and its entities in Christ’s name to alleviate chronic hunger and its immediate causes at home, in their communities and abroad through information dissemination, education, advocacy and the provisions of resources.”

Examples of what it could be used for seed money for a church community garden project, church community nutrition class, community wide meal or dinner, a potato drop, community homeless ministry, church summer children’s meal program,   etc….
