The 2010 Mission Trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was full of joyful events, with a great deal of surprises; some happy and other more engaging and sad. Joint efforts made on the Mission field and from the PEVA office have made this Mission Trip a memorable time to be remembered by all who participated. IPC will like to say Thank you, Merci, Tuasakidila and Akisanti for your help, assistance and commitments geared to “Walking, Working and Growing Together” with congregations in the Presbyterian Church of Congo both in CPC and CPK.
This Mission Trip originally started with 22 delegates listed to go. After a lengthy time of preparation and getting ready, the number of delegates was reduced to 19. It was then increased to 23 with the inclusion of an EVMS Medical Team.
Delegates were enthusiastically and joyfully welcomed by members of the CPK Partnership committee including CPK Presbyterian Women group of which CPK women staff leaders. Welcome and safe arrival prayers, adorations and special music accompanied each step of these joyful events. The Rev. Dr. Josué Tshimungu Mayela and his CPK GA staff honored the events with their presence and prayers.
There were several Evangelism events, called in French Campgne d’Evandelisation. These events were vibrant and spiritual. They were organized to take place during 3 days, in two of the largest churches of CPK. More than 5 pastors from CPK and 3 from PEVA were the main speakers. The theme of the campaign was taken from Romans 1:16: La Puissance de Dieu pour le Salut du quiconque croit (The power of God for the Salvation of whoever believes. During these events CPK choirs from all in CPK executed vibrant and spiritual melodies. The PEVA delegation joined and also executed melodies commonly known for such events. Many came to Christ in response to the call saying: Here I am Lord, Send Me.
The spirit of worship in large gatherings was also noticed when all women in CPK were called to worship together with PEVA's Rev. Addie Peterson preaching. What wonderful moments of worships, prayers, singing the delegates had in Kinshasa, DRC. To God be the glory and honor for the witness of Christ’s partnership ministries with CPK, CPC and PEVA, both in the USA and the DRC.
There was also time given to site seeing and other recreation events including a wedding for one of the 2009 CPK delegates Papa Bontemps who officially had a church wedding to which all PEVA delegates were invited.
Also on the trip, were meetings and worship with CPK Sister Churches. Nine among the 33 PEVA Sister churches were represented by the delegates from PEVA. Their meetings and conversations with their CPK counterparts were cordial and friendly backed up by reports which will be under study at the Mission Facilitator's office upon his return in September. Meanwhile and during his prolonged stay in Kinshasa, the Facilitator will be engaged in conversations and meetings with several churches in CPK. During these meetings programs of mutual projects and feeding programs will be on the agenda to assist CPK churches with guidelines for the implementations of such programs.
