Your Designated
Giving to
Restricted
Funds at Work in 2009
In addition to PEVA’s on-going ministry funded
through our operating budget, through the generous designated
giving of our churches to restricted funds support a very
broad-reaching program of care and support.
Fifteen churches, four individuals, and nine organizations
supported the $27,595 wired to the Congo this month.
This brings the 2009 total to more than $68,500 that has
been provided to support critical Congo missions.

A special thanks to Yorkminister PC for
providing “additional funds” to help support wiring fees for this
most recent wiring of funds to the Congo.
Funds for the Congo missions are used to
support feeding programs for children and hospital patients,
medical and maternity centers, nursing scholarships, construction
projects, and musical instruments.
In addition this year, your gracious giving's have
supported a pig farm, gardens, schools and educational efforts,
and the establishment and equipping of a Cyber Café.
To continue supporting this vital Congo
mission mark your giving with Fund Code 4006 (CPK Feeding
Programs), 4003 (CPK Sister Churches), 4062 (Medical Missions),
or 4302 (CPK Education).
To support the on-going ministry of our International
Partnership – Congo Mission Facilitator, Etienne Bote-Tshiek, and
the International Partnership Committee (IPC), cite Fund Code
4005 (Congo Partnership).
One item of note:
When funds are wired to the Congo, they must be rounded to
$5 increments, it would be helpful, but not required, if your
givings were also in $5 increments.
Did you know that our Restricted Funds support students

Did
you know that our Restricted Funds support students studying at
seminaries?
Under
the auspices of the Committee for Preparation for Ministry (CPM),
in 2009 support has been provided to ministerial candidates at
Union, Regent, and Princeton Theological Seminaries.
This year the education and ministerial testing of 10
candidates has been supported by the CPM .
To date $17,450 has been provided through the Josie
Maclarty Educational Trust Fund; however, that fund is almost
exhausted.
To ensure
the continued support of “inquirers”/ministerial candidates
within our Presbytery, mark your giving with Fund Code 8566
(Scholarships-Minister Candidates).
To support the broader Theological Education programs
under the General Assembly auspices, cite Fund Code 3005
(Theological Education).
The Nor’easter (Nor’ida) has left our area, but there are
still many families trying to cover and get back on their feed.
One of the areas still in the recovery process is Spartan
Village in Norfolk.
While
FEMA did not declare it a disaster area, in the City of Norfolk
there was extensive storm damage.
A community near Covenant Presbyterian Church, Spartan
Village suffered from major flooding from that storm.
It was the second time that area flooded since late April
and the third time in two years.
Spartan Village has 71 townhouses and all had storm
damage, some more than others.
Outside/inside
of damage to the homes still remains.
Covenant Presbyterian Church has opened their property and
meeting spaces to Spartan Village residents for meetings.
Covenant Presbyterian Church has arranged for a
food/toy/clothing collection to help the families in Spartan
Village for the holidays.
Through its Hunger and Peacemaking Committee, PEVA is
coordinating with the Covenant Presbyterian Church recovery
support efforts and PEVA is serving as the central collection
agency for funds needed to help feed those who remain displaced
from their homes and are still in the clean-up/restoration of their
homes to a livable condition.
.
To
provide funding support for this Spartan Village effort, please
send your donations to PEVA and mark them for Fund Code
10032-Spartan Village Relief Support.
Did
you know that PEVA has also established a restricted fund to have
ready in the event of future disasters – we have had one almost
every year and had to seek special support, as is the case with
the Spartan Village effort.
However, there are times when funds are needed to step in
“immediately” and begin providing support.
To provide donations to the Presbyterian Disaster
Assistance (PDA) Local Disaster Contingency Fund, cite Fund Code
10023 on your contribution.
